What will my Pupils Learn?
All of our coaches are fully qualified and hold their up to date coach award with the British Judo Association - the official Governing Body in the UK. Additionally, all coaches are first aid certified and have been CRB checked.
Over the course of the 5 weeks, the children will learn 4 basic hold downs and 2 throws, learn how to fall properly as well as some of the Japanese terminology ie
Dojo - training hall, Gi - judo suit, Hajime - begin, Matte - stop, Tatami– judo mat etc.....
The coach will play a series of games which are designed to help develop children’s agility, balance, control, coordination, reactions etc which are all essential in being able to participate in Judo. The classes last from 45-60mins and go quite quickly as the children are having fun whilst they learn.
The great thing about the sport of Judo is that it is accessible to all shapes and sizes. Children, whatever build they are, will find that they are able to enjoy the sport and learn the moves well.
As well as the obvious physical qualities that Judo has to offer, discipline and respect play a big part in the sport. The sport is of oriental origin and the etiquette of the sport is one of the great traditions that is renowned world wide. Children will learn to have respect for one another and develop the right attitude both on and off the tatami (mat!).
